Andy Byrnes has been performing, touring, recording and composing music for over 35 years since he began his career in the mid 1980’s, having worked with countless acts from around the globe. Andy has developed a unique and multifaceted style of interpreting and performing music and is primarily self taught alongside studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of music. His range of knowledge of many styles include Rock, Jazz, Funk, Electronic, Baroque, Classical and World Music means that he brings a versatility and authenticity to his performance.
Starting out on the drums at the age of 14, he continued to diversify into a variety of hand percussion instruments including Indian tabla, darbuka, and Latin percussion. Alongside performing Andy has also taught privately for over 30 years.
His first band, The Moffs toured and recorded with several releases over a 5 year period with their unique psychedelic rock sound gaining them a solid fan base. Following the members disbanding, Andy joined The Clouds which were a successful 90’s Indie Rock Band who were also very active on the touring and recording circuit. After this, he moved to London with an OZ rock band in the pursuit of fame and fortune and whilst there diversified into modern electronic music making many contacts through that time which led to joining very popular Electro-Tribal outfit Tribal Drift that toured extensively through Europe and the UK. To this day Andy has continued touring with his own act Loonaloop that he created in collaboration with past band members. Loonaloop has released 6 CD’s touring and promoting their unique style of music throughout Europe and the UK for 15 years consecutively including over 10 performances at the world famous Glastonbury Festival attracting many loyal followers.
Andy has worked in studio production with Vanda & Young (AC/DC,Easybeats), Bob Malone (John Fogerty), Kirk Pengilly (INXS), Mark McEntee (Divinyls), to name a few. Having worked with countless Australian acts performing, recording and composing Andy continues to be in demand with a wide range of artists.
