Alexander Gavrylyuk

Having begun his piano studies at the age of seven and given his first concerto performance at the age of nine, Alexander Gavrylyuk won the First Prize and Gold Medal at the 1999 Horowitz International Competition, First Prize at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan in 2000, and, in 2005, took the Gold Medal as well as award for Best Performance of a Classical Concerto at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition.

Residing in Australia from the age of 13 until 2006, Alexander Gavrylyuk has appeared with all the main Australian orchestras. Following his debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2010, Alexander Garylyuk has returned to Amsterdam each year, either in recital in the Master Pianist’s Series, with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra or as part of the Zatertaag Matinee at the Concertgebouw. Other orchestras with which he has appeared include the New York, Los Angeles, Russian National and Seoul Philharmonics, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and Tokyo and Vancouver Symphony Orchestras. Conductors with whom he has played include Andrey Boreyko, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Valery Gergiev, Herbert Blomstadt, Gianandrea Noseda and Vladimir Jurowski. He has given recitals at venues such as London’s Wigmore Hall, the Tonhalle Zurich, Vienna’s Musikverein and recently Berlin’s Konzerthaus. Recent orchestral appearances include Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 with Xian Zhang and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg and Michael Schønwandt and the Orchestre National de Montpellier.

Alexander Gavrylyuk’s recordings include works by Rachmaninov, Schumann, Scriabin, Mussorgsky, and the complete piano concertos of Prokofiev. He supports a number of charities including the Theme and Variations Young Pianist Trust, which supports aspiring Australian pianists, as well as Opportunity Cambodia, which has built a residential educational facility for Cambodian children. Alexander Gavrylyuk is a Steinway artist.
