Music to illuminate the darkness.
If a searing personal experience can be transformed into an extraordinary work of art, the result is Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony, created in the shadow of Stalin’s Russia. This is powerful, raw, confessional music. Lili Boulanger’s Of a Sad Evening— haunting and passionate—features particularly memorable moments for harp and percussion. Adelaide’s own Andrew Bain, now Principal Horn of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, returns home for the World Premiere of a concerto written for him by one of Australia’s leading contemporary composers.
Classical Conversations
Join us at the Meeting Hall (located just behind Adelaide Town Hall) one hour before the concert for our free Classical Conversations and hear from composer Paul Dean and ABC Classic FM presenter and producer Graham Abbott discussing Paul’s new commission.
Featuring
Program to include
- Lili Boulanger D’un soir triste (Of a Sad Evening)
